Harris: Nets competitive, now we have to win games

Another game, another loss. Make that another three games and another three losses.
The Nets fell to Detroit, 97-93, on Tuesday despite the return of Devin Harris, who scored 24 points. It was the Nets third straight loss after beating the Clippers last week. The Nets had a chance to win it, but they bungled their final possession and blew the game.Closing out games has obviously been a problem, but Harris sees improvement."At first we were going through how to compete. Now we're getting to the point where it's a close game every night," Harris said. "So now we have to learn the execution part and running plays in situations and close out games in the right tense."Harris believes the team has increased its level of play on both sides of the ball. Now it's just a matter of learning how to win games at the end."We'll get there. The defense is playing the way we want it to. Offensively we're getting there. It comes down to execution the last couple minutes of a game." But does it matter now? Whether or not the Nets break the 76ers record for futility, the upcoming offseason is going to be the most important in Nets history. How important is it? If the Nets make the wrong decision, pick the wrong player or make the wrong trade, it could set the franchise back several more years. They are already on the right track thanks to the emergence of youngsters like Brook Lopez and Chris Douglas-Roberts.The Nets could end up with the No.1 pick in the draft this summer. Most believe that pick will be John Wall. While it seems like a no-brainer, we can't forget what happened in 1984 when the Portland Trailblazers drafted Sam Bowie with the No.2 pick.Who did the Trailblazers miss out on? Try Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley. Oh yeah, Sam Perkins, Otis Thorpe, Kevin Willis and John Stockton were also in that draft. This isn't to say the Nets are going to pass on Wall for someone else, but it's easy to make a mistake in the draft.Just ask the Orlando Magic if they are happy they took Dwight Howard instead of Emeka Okafor.
