Marilyn's Clothing Store, Harlem's newest fashion boutique located at 541 Lenox Avenue in Manhattan, offers upscale fashions for men, women and children. The store specializes in high-end labels at low-end prices. Right now, they are having a nice sale on women's leather boots and pretty party dresses for young girls.

A family operation, owner Marilyn Harris opened her first store on West 116th Street in 1998. It had always been her dream to open another store uptown near Harlem Hospital. She works with her sister in this new 541 Lenox Avenue shop, just a couple of doors down from Spoonbread restaurant.

"At this time of the year, I realize my customers need all the help they can get," said Marilyn.

At affordable prices, her store provides great values and quality merchandise.

In her spare time, Ms. Harris concentrates on giving back to her community. She has organized an intern program for local youngsters. For the last three summers, Marilyn has hired 30 kids from the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), training them in sales and retail management. According to Marilyn, "This is just the right kind of training to help children get started on the right track." Ms. Harris is a native New Yorker with a background in retail management. At Marilyn's on West 116th and Lenox Avenue (open for the last 12 years), the fashion focus is on men's clothing, and her son runs the store.

One of the important parts of any holiday season is that small businesses depend on community support. A business like Marilyn's needs your support to continue to offer top-quality products all year round. Their recent holiday celebration drew a wonderful crowd and was very successful, and there are still some nice holiday gifts available.

Marilyn's is open Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
