President-elect Barack Obama announced his cabinet members yesterday and described the team as leaders who will assist him in addressing ongoing national challenges.
"In this uncertain world, the time has come for a new beginning," he said. "A new dawn of American leadership to overcome the challenges of the 21st century and to seize the opportunity embedded in those challenges."
His national security team, a mixture of legislators, diplomats and executives, is comprised of Sen. Hillary Clinton, who will serve as Secretary of State; current Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, who will continue to serve in his current position.
Eric Holder, a former U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia will serve as attorney general; Janet Napolitano, current Arizona governor, as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Dr. Susan E. Rice, a Senior Foreign Policy Advisor for Obama during his campaign, will serve as Ambassador to the United Nations and General Jim Jones, a former allied commander, will serve as National Security Advisor.
Obama said the team will aid in fighting America's two front war- maintaining national security while addressing the grave and urgent economic crisis.
