The Amsterdam News sports experts pick their first half MVPs and rookies.

Marcus Henry | 4/12/2011, 4:45 p.m.

On the MVPs:

Harris: There are several worthy candidates for NBA MVP at the All-Star Game break. The Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose, the Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant and the Knicks' Amare Stoudemire. The pick here is the Miami Heat's LeBron James, basketball's most complete player.

Henry: League MVPs go to players on winning teams. With that in mind Amar'e Stoudemire is the pick. When was the last time the Knicks were knocking on the playoff door this late in the season? Enough said.

On the rookies:

Harris: Hands down the Easter Conference Rookie of the Year is Landry Fields. Overall, the 24-year-old Fields has been the second most productive first year player in the NBA behind the Los Angeles Clippers Blake Griffin.

Henry: It doesn't get much better than John Wall. The Wizards are nothing to write home about, but rookie guard is the only reason people come to D.C. Wall leads all east rookies in scoring (14.7) and assists (9.1).
