Hundreds took to the streets for a two-mile "Not in My 'Hood" youth anti-violence march on Sat- urday, May 14 with a coalition of elected officials and anti-violence organizations. Marchers raised awareness about gun violence among the youth and communities of color in Flatbush, Brooklyn by shouting slogans like "Not in my 'hood" and "Don't shoot: I wanna live" at high-crime areas along the route.
The march and subsequent resource fair offered information on education, employment and after- school and summer programs to build a dialogue and connection with young people in the commu- nity.
State Sen. Eric Adams said, "Together we can say that crime, drugs and gun violence will not be in my 'hood."
City Council Member Jumaane D. Williams sponsored the march, along with the East Flat- bush Village Youth Organization, Brooklyn Col- lege, CVC Youth Committee and others. Elected officials Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, Comptroller John Liu and Brooklyn Bor- ough President Marty Markowitz also took part in the march.
