On Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m., the Committee to Eliminate Media Offensive to African People (CEMOTAP) is hosting an event to discuss the direction of the television show “Like It Is” after host Gil Noble suffered a stroke on Aug. 4. The speakers for the event include Council Member Charles Barron; James McIntosh, co-chair of CEMOTAP; Larry Hamm from the People’s Organization for Progress; Bernard White from WBAI; and Gil Noble’s daughter Lisa. The award-winning “Like It Is” has been a staple in the Black community for 43 years.
“Here and Now” is currently being broadcast at noon on Sundays at the time “Like It Is” aired, but it’s not popular with viewers, according to CEMOTAP co-chair Betty Dopson. “Clearly, the show is a disappointment,” said Dopson. “We all need to move forward. I think that Gary Byrd would bring to WABC-TV all that they need to keep the promise they have made to the community.” The CEMOTAP Center is located at 135-05 Rockaway Blvd., South Ozone Park, Queens, N.Y.
