City Council Speaker Christine Quinn announced plans to sue Mayor Michael Bloomberg over a new policy at the Department of Homeless Services. On Tuesday, the City Council held a meeting allowing the lawsuit to go forward against the new policy, which requires single people applying to homeless shelters to prove they do not have alternative living situations.
The City Council argues that Bloomberg did not allow sufficient time for public comment on the policy and did not inform the public before it was implemented. The Legal Aid Society is also suing the Bloomberg administration over the policy.
