Singer Vesta Williams passes

Funeral services for singer Vesta Williams will be held at West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Oct. 4. Further details will be furnished by the family. The R&B great, who brought us hits like "Congratulations," was found dead in her El Segundo, Calif., hotel room on Sept. 22 after apparently dying in her sleep. While both TMZ and ABC News reported there were prescription pill bottles on the scene, the cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy. Williams was staying at the hotel while in transition to a new home. She was 53.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, several days before President Barack Obama arrived in Los Angeles and West Hollywood, Calif., on Sept. 26 for a fundraiser and town hall meeting, the windows and a glass door of his Westside L.A. campaign office were shattered. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga was among the guests at a Silicon Valley fundraiser for the president. The intimate gathering was held under a tent in the yard of Facebook CEO Sheryl Sandberg on Sept. 25.
