With an additional 200,000 plus increase in employment across the country last month, jobs are still scarce. On Friday, April 20th the Ninth Annual Job Expo, sponsored by Councilman Leroy Comrie's office, was be held in the main atrium of CUNY York College in Jamaica, Queens.
The event accommodated over 25 employers including TD Bank, NYC DYCD Summer Youth Employment, AARP Senior Employment and others. This employment fair gave citizens and students an opportunity to explore job opportunities with the numerous companies seeking to hire new employees. About 400 people turned out throughout the day, from the unemployed to those looking for additional jobs for the summer.
"We do this on a regular basis because it is easier to bring the employer to the potential employees", stated Comrie. "York College is a central location, transportation accessible, and a site that has the best accommodation for such an event. People come all different boroughs to this expo and we are proud of the employers that reached out and expressed their interest in providing jobs".
