Three months before his 100th birthday, John Levy passed away in his sleep on Monday according to his wife Devra Hall Levy.

Born in New Orleans, he was known as a talented bassist and performed with the greatest figure of Jazz music such as Billie Holiday, Erroll Garner, Bill Taylor and many others.

In the early 50’s he decided to dedicate himself to the full-time profession of Jazz manager, which he did with success as he created his own management agency: The John Levy Entreprises Inc.

The National Endowment has saluted his career in 2006 for the Arts by naming him a Jazz master.
