The 2012 U.S.-Africa Ambassadorship Program was held at Baruch College on Nov. 10. Ten intelligent, beautiful African women representing 10 countries (Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Cte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Guinea, Haiti, Senegal, Sierra Leone and South Africa) showcased their talents, creativity and intellect to an audience filled with family, friends, supporters and community leaders.
The participants prepared for months. They attended events such as the African Day Parade and the Restoring the Rose Walkathon, among others. The U.S.-Africa Ambassadorship Program's goal is to promote gender equality in African and African-American communities, to enable women to have equal access to education, to build and strengthen leadership skills and to empower them for entrepreneurship. The program also raises public awareness on issues affecting Black women.
