Saint Augustine's University graduate Christopher Copeland was named a regional winner of the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award recently. By winning the honor, Copeland is eligible for the national award, the winner being announced Monday, Oct.22.
The Male and Female Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be chosen from a group of 16 regional winners--eight men and eight women--including Copeland. The national award, sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, provides the opportunity for Division II to highlight the extraordinary achievements of its student-athletes.
Copeland was a track and field standout for the Falcons during his collegiate career. A six-time All-American, Copeland twice won the NCAA Division II indoor high jump title. He was named CIAA Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was a Capital One Academic All-America first team selection in 2012. A Suffolk, Va., native, Copeland graduated in May 2012 with a sports management degree and a 3.64 cumulative grade point average.
