Actress Clarice Taylor dies at age 93

Stage, film and television actress Clarice Taylor has died. She was best known for her role in the groundbreaking Black sitcom The Cosby Show where she played Bill Cosby's fictional mother and grandmother to the Huxtable children, Anna Huxtable. She was 93.

Reports indicate Taylor died on Monday of heart failure. Born in Virginia, Taylor was raised in New York City and is credited as one of the founding members of the Negro Ensemble Company in the East Village.

Taylor appeared in several films including Change of Mind, Five on the Blackhand Side, Play Misty for Me and Tell Me That You Love Me, Junie Moon. On stage she appeared in The Wiz and did a one-women show titled Moms where she portrayed Black female comedian Moms Mabley.

On television she appeared on Sanford and Son and Sesame Street. However, it was Taylor's role on The Cosby Show which earned her an Emmy nomination. Taylor appeared in 19 episodes of The Cosby Show often appearing alongside her fictional husband Russell Huxtable played by Earle Hyman.
