Big time boxing returning to Brooklyn

It's been over 50 years since big-time boxing has thrown punches in Brooklyn, but that will change come Oct. 20, when Oscar De La Hoya and his Golden Boy Promotions Company, in partnership with the Barclays Center, headed up by CEO Brett Yormark, will program their first of some 12 events under a multi-year deal.

The first event will feature Danny "Swift" Garcia, the World Boxing Association super lightweight and World Boxing Council and Ring magazine super welterweight champion of the world. Garcia will trade punches and, who knows, possibly titles with the super lightweight and former four-division world champion Eric Morales. Showtime will beam the fight live.

A punch-fest co-main feature will see Brooklyn's popular Paulie "Magic Man" Malignaggi, the WBA world welterweight champ, against Pablo Cesar "El Demoledor" Cano. An impressive evening of undercard bouts will "punch off" at 7 p.m. at Barclays Center.
