"I'm dreaming of a white President, just like the ones we've always had: A real, live white man who knows the score, how to handle money or start a war. Wouldn't even have to tell me what we were fighting for. He'd be the right man if he were."
Randy Newman, known for writing satirical songs "Short People," "Political Science" and "Rednecks," released a song entitled "I'm Dreaming of a White President" which pokes fun at the white male voters that hold racism as the, usually unspoken or hidden, subtext to their political views.
"They're not all complete pinheads," said Newman, who also did the scores for movies Ragtime, Seabiscuit, and all three Toy Story films, in an interview with Slate "this guy, in "I'm Dreaming," he has no case at all, just some vague pseudo-scientific theories that no doubt sound good to him but are nonsense."
Newman goes on to tell Slate that no one would admit to the thoughts expressed in his song but that its clear many people in the country still feel uncomfortable with Barack Obama as their president.
"for me it's a reaction to the Republican Party, which seems to have drifted farther to the right than a major party has drifted in my lifetime in any direction," Newman tells slate "It seems to have become almost a radical party. The hate and... I don't think it'll last. That kind of thing doesn't seem to last."
