For a special one-week only engagement beginning Friday, Aug. 23 and running through Tuesday, Aug. 27, Emmy winning actress Jackée will light up the New York City theater world as the star of “NEWSical the Musical.” “NEWSical the Musical” is the forever-changing, completely unsanitized musical mockery of all the news that’s fit to spoof. From Honey Boo Boo to Paula Deen, the budget crisis to the Long Island Medium, marriage equality to Kim and Kanye’s baby, “NEWSical the Musical” sets all of today’s biggest pop culture headlines to song.

“I am beyond stoked to be joining the cast of ‘NEWSical the Musical,’” says Jackée. “The brilliance of Tom D’Angora coupled with such a formidable cast made this a production I simply couldn’t refuse!”

Ironically, social media played a huge part in Jackée becoming a part of this wonderful production. She and D’Angora actually met on Twitter.

“I actually decided to do the role being online with the producer Tom,” Jackée told the AmNews. “We kept going back and forth and back and forth for several months on Twitter. People don’t know the power of social media. And you can follow people from anywhere.”

Jokingly she added: “You can be in the witness protection program and still be on Twitter. It’s really amazing.”

D’Angora has mutual adoration for Jackée.

“Jackée starring in ‘NEWSical’ is beyond my wildest dreams and expectations. I have said it before and I will say it again: Jackée is a comedic genius and she can sing her face off. Hands down, I am the luckiest producer in New York theater this season,” says D’Angora.

Her performance in “NEWSical” will be the first time Jackée has graced a stage in New York City in a decade. She was last seen on the Great White Way in 2003, when she played the role of the Madam in “The Boys from Syracuse.” Aside from showcasing her comedic skills, New Yorkers will also get a chance to hear the actress’ glorious singing voice.

Says Jackée: “I’m singing a couple of songs. One of them was written for me called ‘One Name Diva,’ and the other one is called ‘Love in New York.’ Most people don’t realize I’m from New York. They think I’m from L.A. I love New York. There’s no running in and out here. New Yorkers love their theater. People go to the theater in New York.”

Jackée’s career in television began right in the Big Apple in 1983 on the soap opera “Another World.” A year later, she landed the iconic role of Sandra Clark on the NBC sitcom “227.” As the breakout star of the series, she became the first African-American to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and was also nominated for a Golden Globe.

From there, her stellar career has included the self-titled sitcom “Jackée,” “Sister, Sister” and many other groundbreaking roles.

The fan favorite continues to entertain and inspire. She currently stars on the CW’s “The First Family” and has a recurring role on BET’s “Let’s Stay Together.” She is about to start filming a recurring role in “Girl Meets World,” the Disney Channel’s new spin-off of the popular show “Boy Meets World,” another role that miraculously materialized through Twitter.

“I did the pilot, which was fabulous,” says Jackée, “I have known Ben and Fred Savage since they were kids. Once again, we were following each other on Twitter and that’s how we got together.”

With 120,031 people following this fantastic lady on Twitter, the world is her oyster.
