If the King of Pop were alive today he would have turned 55. However, even four years after the death of Michael Jackson, fans are still giving birthday wishes via social media.

Instagram, Facebook and Twitter were all abuzz on Thursday with the #michaeljackson hashtag and photos posted of Jackson. On the Twitter account for the late pop legend by his estate, fans were asked to join in the cyber celebration.

“Honor Michael on this special day, the day of his birth - Take part in the worldwide celebration: http://birthday.michaeljackson.com/ #MJWeAreOne,” the account tweeted Thursday.

A map, reportedly on Instagram, is plotting where birthday wishes are coming from. The project is being called the "Michael Jackson We Are One Worldwide Birthday Celebration."

In Jackson's hometown of Gary, Ind., a block party took place in front of his childhood home as part of a three-day celebration.

Unreleased music by Jackson is also coming out soon. The announcement was made by hip hop producer and artist Timberland who posted a YouTube video.

In the city, an annual tribute party for Jackson is being held hosted by Kevin Powell and Savior Elmundo on Friday at Le Possion Rouge in Manhattan. The event is a collaboration between Freedom Party and BK Nation and will feature DJs Cosi, Herbert Holler and Marc Smooth. Log onto www.thefreedomdanceparty.com for more info.
