Independent R&B singer/songwriter Jey Gibbs lit up the night at his listening party on Wednesday at Daddy's House Recording Studios in Manhattan.

Performing before fans, supporters and the media, Gibbs, 25, sang songs from his album including “Touch Yo Body” and his new single, “Shout it Out.” The event was hosted by Mic Barber and Mo Brown Suga with music by Hot 97's DJ Spynfo.

The South Carolina native, who now resides in Brooklyn, got his start singing in church. He also performed on “Showtime at the Apollo” at age 13 and recently launched a professional music career.

"I am happy to be able to finally throw my hat in the ring," said Gibbs. "It's taken a lot of hard work and sacrifice to bring my music to the table and I could not have done it alone. I am extremely grateful to the team I have around me.”

Some of Gibbs musical inspirations include Kelly Roland, Usher, Miguel, Stevie Wonder and Sam Cook. Also a songwriter, Gibbs said most of his lyrics come from life experiences and from hearing a good beat.

“I'm a big R&B head. I love R&B 90s music. They used to shut it down back then,” he said.

Gibbs is currently working on more music slated for release soon. He is a graduate of Long Island University where he majored in Communications.
