Are you ready to bring more pleasure, fun and greatness to your life? This is the question being posed by Kavita Patel, a person who specializes in going beneath the surface to uncover what really makes the world go ’round. She says, “I know a lot of [people] wish they were loving their career and having relationships that kick ass. They want to be debt-free, feel great in their body and leap out of bed each morning, ready to attack the day. But not everyone is experiencing this right now. There are a lot of [people] out there in crappy relationships or uncomfortably single, getting divorced, staying in jobs that are suffocating, frustrated with their kids, exhausted, bored and settling. I hope you know that I believe in a much bigger and more satisfying picture for your life, because when you are enjoying your life, you will attract all kinds of love.” I can go for that.

Discussing this topic in-depth is the online feature, “Unlock Your Greatness Event: 15 Experts Teach You How to Rock Your Career, Relish Your Relationships and Relax in Your Home So You Can Stop Settling and Create a Life of Your Own Design.” The event will take place from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1 online, and it’s absolutely free. Just get comfy and tune into www.yourgreatnessunlocked.com. The caveat is that this discussion is led by women and it makes references to women, but I think the concepts can work just as well for men– so guys, don’t shy away.

If you can’t get enough of this stuff, there is also the “Ditch Deprivation Event: 16 Experts Show You How to Stop Depriving & Start Thriving!” Here, the discussion focuses on developing the method and mindset for having more fun in life AND getting what you want. Kavita says, “These two things usually don’t go together for most of us. We feel we have to give up something to gain something.”

If you feel like you are always choosing between what you want and what you “should” do, you can grab your virtual seat at www.ditchdeprivationevent.com, Jan. 28 to Feb. 1. The event is free.

Remember last week, I told you how everybody who is anybody in New York has a power breakfast at the Regency and lunch at Michael’s? Well, this week Jonelle Procope, CEO of the Apollo Theater Foundation, was seen having lunch with Star Jones at Michael’s. Jones must have her very own table there by now. Also there (but not at Jones’ table) having fun at the media ladies’ luncheon were talk show personalities Hoda Kotb, (love her!), Kathie Lee Gifford, Peggy Siegal, Savannah Guthrie and Meredith Vieira celebrating the publication of Kotb’s new book.

I recall hearing Kotb recount her story of how she got started in the business. She had been traveling all over the country with her demo tape, looking for a start. After more than a few rejections, she was about to give up but had one last interview. Kotb went on to say, “Here I was, despondent, not looking half as crisp as I did when I first started, on top of which, I had a funny name, Hoda Kotb, and here I am sitting with the producer on my last interview, and what I once thought was a fantastic demo tape was beginning to look not so hot. When it was over, the producer turned to me and said, ‘This is exactly what I am looking for.’ It was then I realized, all you need is one person to believe in you.’” After hearing that story, I’ve been a Kotb fan ever since.

Can you believe the city let the school bus drivers go on strike when all they are asking for is job security? It’s exactly this type of mentality that keeps us as a city divided instead of working together. I can see if a driver is let go because of negligence or incompetence, but other than that, let these men and women keep their jobs. What’s wrong with people?

On Friday, Jan. 25, the Winter Antiques Show celebrates its 59th year as America’s most distinguished antiques show. The show features exceptional objects exhibited by 73 specialists in American, English, European and Asian fine and decorative arts from antiquity through the 1960s. The 2013 honorary chairs are Mr. and Mrs. Claudio Del Vecchio and Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill. All net proceeds from the show benefit East Side House Settlement, which provides access to quality education and technology to students in the South Bronx. Among those responsible for coordinating this effort is Eula Johnson. The event is held at the Park Avenue Armory, 67th Street and Park Avenue, daily; admission is $20.

But wait, East Side House Settlements is not finished. On Thursday, Jan. 31, from 7 to 9 p.m., it will host the Winter Antiques Show Young Collectors Night. Still held at the Park Avenue Armory, the evening will offer a private viewing of America’s most prestigious antiques show for enthusiasts of art, antiques and interior design. The night also provides guests with the opportunity to meet New York magazine’s design editor and chairwoman of the interior design committee, Wendy Goodman, along with many of the country’s most illustrious interior designers (will Elaine Griffin be there?), who will be demonstrating the freshest ways to implement classic antique designs into more modern decors.

Proceeds from the evening will fund East Side’s vital work in the South Bronx and surrounding communities. Tickets are a little bit more pricey at $175 in advance and at the door, subject to availability. Seeing how big the armory is, I don’t think that will be a problem, but you can always call East Side Settlement to find out: 718-292-7392.

Until next week … kisses
