Anna Sui and Hush Puppies have collaborated again; this time, their looks are young, folkloric, feminine and colorful. Sui's designs were well-received at the New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. "My collaboration with Hush Puppies for my fall '13 show features tricolor suede Mary Jane brogues with wedge heels and tall crinkle patent leather shearling go-go boots," said Sui.
These boots reminded her of the back-to-school issues of fashion magazines from her childhood. There are playful color combos such as sapphire, turquoise, emerald, ruby, grape, port, birch and gold. Three-foot fashion styles will be available to consumers for fall 2013, including the Village Anna Sui Kiltie, the Village Anna Sui Slip On and the Village Anna Sui Bootie. "We are thrilled to work with Anna Sui for the third season," boasted Jen Reeves, Hush Puppies vice president of global marketing. "Her style is so unique and vibrant, and a great compliment to our brand. Consumers have loved the edgy collaborations in the past, and we are excited to be able to offer a follow-up collection."
For fall 2013, Sui's theme is "Nouvelle Vague." "I was inspired by French New Wave cinema, especially the work of Francios Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard. I love the graphic quality and painterly compositions of Godard's films," remarked Sui. Her particular favorites are "Banda a Part" (1964), "Masculin Feminin: 15 Faits Precis" (1966), and "Made in USA" (1966). She was also inspired by his two stars, the gorgeous Anna Karina and the adorable Chantal Goya, and the Ye-ye girls of the period.
The latest Anna Sui for Hush Puppies line is a combination of the authentic style of an American footwear brand and the hip style of the world-renowned fashion designer. Her fall collection celebrates a rich color palette and the decadent texture of the feminine, exuberant style of Anna Sui and the relaxed style of Hush Puppies.
Sui and Hush Puppies are a perfect fit. Her customary mix of vintage and rock influences usually includes a wink of her Midwestern background. There's an underlying spirit of American pop culture behind everything she designs.
