In the Madison Avenue flagship store, Barneys New York's shoe department is the talk of the town. Designer shoes for men and women are for the first time next to each other on the same floor. In celebration of the new floor, Barneys has created Perfect Pairs, a campaign that supports the Human Rights Campaign and its Americans for Marriage Equality Program.
"The opening of our new fifth floor for shoes is another milestone in our multi-year plan to renovate our Madison Avenue flagship, which creates new cross-connections between men's and women's floors," said Mark Lee, CEO of Barneys New York. "We are excited to unveil this luxurious new environment to our customers and shoe designers, and are proud to support the HRC in the spirit of all variations of Perfect Pairs."
A truly unique environment, this new shoe floor allows you to shop freely between the women's and men's departments. The entire floor, a comprehensive 22,000-square-foot space, houses all designer shoes for men and women. "Co-op" shoes are still on the eighth floor for men and on the seventh floor for women. Housed in a space that connects the women's and men's shoes is an assortment of luggage and travel accessories for women and men. Brands include Rimowa, T. Anthony, Serapian, Bric's, Tumi, Barneys New York and select styles from Balenciaga, Valextra, Zagliani and Givenchy.
Barneys New York completed the design of its shoe floor in collaboration with interior design firm Yabu Pushelberg, under the direction of Barneys' creative director Dennis Freedman. With open space and minimal walls, the floor's environment is consistent with Barneys' gallery aesthetic and Madison Avenue's newly renovated women's ground floor.
Full of natural light and an abundance of custom-designed seating groups made of mohair and cotton velvet upholstery, this luxurious new floor also features white Italian marble walls and floating translucent brass-glass spaces that create partial environments that highlight the merchandise. There are display tables and fixtures made of materials such as stainless steel, white marble, glass and ebony macassar wood. The new shoe floor also offers iPad stations throughout, with access to Barneys.com and its luxury content site, the Window.
Barneys New York continues to champion new designers and emerging talent while giving established designers a modern forum to showcase their visions. The women's department carries a number of exclusive (XO) brands such as Narciso Rodriguez and Maiyet. Additionally, brands with exclusive styles will include Giavito Rossi, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Sergio Rossi, Manolo Blahnik, Pierre Hardy, Giuseppe Zanotti and Maison Martin Margiela.
Within the men's department, classic shoes and fashion shoes will no longer be housed on separate floors but rather together on the new fifth-floor space. Men's brands include Sergio Rossi, Alberto-Moretti-Arfango, Battistoni, Endless, Harris, Officine Creative, Franceschetti and Bettarin & Venturi. Brands with exclusive styles are Christian Louboutin, Balenciaga, Prada, Balmain, Ferragamo, Givenchy, Lanvin, Tod's, Church's and John Lobb.
