Bill Laimbeer could be seen squinting with a somewhat puzzled look on his face after his Liberty, up 19 points in the fourth, almost handed the game to Seattle. But under the leadership of Cappie Pondexter, whom Laimbeer moved to the point guard position for the first time this season, calmed her team down and led them to a 66-57 decision.
“We just played awful,” groaned Laimbeer.
Plenette Pierson scored a game-high 22 points as the Liberty moved a game closer to .500 at 6-7 on the season after Tuesday’s win. The Liberty had also played poorly in their home game against Chicago, who laid it on them for a 29-point loss two days after the win against Seattle.
The Liberty will suit up again on Sunday at home against Chicago.
