First female Harlem Globetrotter in 20 years coming to town

TNT Maddox, former standout at Temple University, joined the Globetrotters in the fall of 2011 as the ninth woman to play for the team in 87 years. She is the first female Globetrotter since 1993.

The first woman to ever play for a men's professional basketball team was a Globetrotter, Lynette Woodard, who signed in 1985.

Maddox and the Globetrotters will play a portion of every game with specially designed pink Spalding basketballs to promote breast cancer awareness. The team is also selling pink wristbands with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Globetrotters' 2013 "You Write the Rules" World Tour will allow New York-area fans to choose the rules of each game. New rules will include playing with two basketballs at once, getting double the points for each basket and more. Fans can vote for their favorite rule at

The Globetrotters' new tour tipped off at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn when over 15,000 fans witnessed the first sporting event in the new arena last Oct. 7.

The Globetrotters' game at Madison Square Garden, originally scheduled for 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, will now tip off at 7 p.m. on the same day to accommodate families who have children in school that afternoon. Many New York City area schools will be in session on the Presidents Day holiday to make up for missed time due to Superstorm Sandy.
