ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH
Great eats can also be found within minutes of Dick's Sporting Goods Park, home of the Colorado Rapids pro soccer team in Commerce, Colo., at La Sandia (303-373-9100, www.richardsandoval.com/lasandiacantina/index.php). Authentic fare like Mexican chocolate waffles with cajeta, fried plantains, whipped crema and strawberry sauce, "Chicken Divorciadas" with shredded chicken, entomatada sauce, tomatillo sauce, crema fresca and a dizzying array of easily 60 types of tequila draw fans of all kinds alike.
Not too far away is Invesco Field, home of the Denver Broncos, where neighboring joint Biker Jim's Gourmet Dogs (720-746-9355, http://bikerjimsdogs.com) serves unique dogs and brats like elk with jalapeno cheddar, duck cilantro and German veal, and amazing side dishes like charred tahini cauliflower are fan favorites.
Near Coors Field, home of baseball's Colorado Rockies, Swanky's Vittles and Libations (303-297-2399, www.swankys.com) is known for it's grilled sausage and cheese, fresh bratwurst and pizzas. Falling Rock Tap House (303-293-8338, http://fallingrocktaphouse.com) fans get their eat on with their Falling Rock dip, made with grilled sliced rib-eye topped with pepper jack cheese and house-made spicy au jus, a blackened bacon cheeseburger with Cajun spices, and a variety of tacos and subs.
EVERYWHERE IN L.A. IS (CULINARY) SHOWTIME!
If visiting L.A. to enjoy a Dodger's baseball game, be sure to try area favorite Chego (http://eatchego.com), featuring eats like Kung Pao noodle bowls, pork belly with fried egg, pickled radishes, water spinach, Chinese broccoli, cotija and peanuts or their "3PM Meatballs," Korean-fried with shaved green onions, sesame and a fried polenta patty.
Another area favorite is Guisados Tacos, (213-250-7600, www.guisados.co), pitching up (sorry, I just had to!) mild to very spicy taco combinations including chorizo, chicarron, mole poblano, bistec en salsa roja, camaron and frijol con queso, for starters.
Whew! I'm starving! But now I've got another theme to add to my sports--and travel--adventures that is sure to achieve a homerun, goal, touchdown, checkered flag ...
