Kanye and Kendrick Lamar among big names at upcoming Governors Ball

Randall's Island will play host to some of the best that music has to offer this weekend when the third annual Governors Ball Music Festival takes place from June 7-9.

Covering a variety of genres, the festival has something to offer all who attend. Outside of some of the biggest names in indie and alternative rock--like Dinosaur Jr., Animal Collective, Beach House, Grizzly Bear, Feist and Of Monsters and Men--the festival has its share of rap and R&B acts as well, including rappers Freddie Gibbs, Azealia Banks, Kendrick Lamar and Nas, R&B act Erykah Badu and the Cannabinoids and Kanye West, who will headline the festival's final night. The lineup also includes blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr., who just finished an eight-night stand at the Royal Albert Hall in London with Eric Clapton.

Lamar comes to the festival riding high off of the success of his recent album "good kid, m.A.A.d city," which features the hits "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and "Poetic Justice." Lamar performed with his Top Dawg Entertainment crew of artists at Hot 97's Summer Jam concert in the Meadowlands this past Sunday.

The mercurial West has a new album titled "Yeezus," slated for release on June 18. But with just two weeks remaining, there hasn't been a single or video promoting the record released to the public. According to several reports, West is hurriedly revamping some of the album's material after the mixed reception to his performance of the songs "New Slaves" and "Black Skinhead" on "Saturday Night Live" last month.

On top of the musical acts, the Governors Ball will feature art installations, free water refill stations, warm-up yoga, lawn games, ping-pong, face and body painting and a "silent disco." The festival will also provide food from many local establishments including Rickshaw Dumpling Bar and Korilla BBQ.
