Award-winning Amsterdam News reporter Cyril Josh Barker will be featured in the upcoming 2013 fall issue of HBCU Connect magazine, which showcases a series of alumni from various Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).

The magazine is a space for scholarships applications, functions as an HBCU student/alumni community network and serves as an outlet that offers perspective employment opportunities for African-American men and women. Hampton University graduate William Roger Moss III founded HBCU Connect, originally called “HBCU Central,” in 1999. Before LinkedIn and Facebook existed, the magazine started as a platform for HBCU graduates to brand themselves for professional career opportunities. Since then, HBCU Connect has gained over 1.5 million members from HBCUs across the country.

Barker, an Alabama State University graduate, and his fellow HBCU college alumni were each hand-selected to be featured in this year’s special edition issue of HBCU Connect magazine. Founder and CEO Will Moss stated that this special edition issue will showcase the accomplishments of the very few that were selected. The feature will highlight the success of HBCU student graduates who are making an impact not only in their community, but in corporate America as well.

Out of the 50-75 prospective profile features, Barker is one of the few to be recognized for his superlative work ethic and contributions to the African-American community.

“I feel very honored to be in this group of other fantastic HBCU alums. This confirms my passion and commitment to Black colleges” said Barker on his feature.

Barker has won numerous awards from the New York Association of Black Journalists, which includes several first-place awards, with the most profound being the Best Spot/ General News Story Award.
