Spring news and crispy crew cuts

At J. Crew’s New York presentation, menswear takes the lead. For spring ’14, the look is casual, sporty and classic for the young and restless who are moving about town. Dresses are sleeveless, sheath-fitting and in just-below-the-knee lengths. Their pants outfits for women fit the body, yet they are loose and comfortable. Their show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York was splendid, drawing a fantastic crowd. Everyone knows that first lady Michelle Obama is fond of J. Crew’s fashions.
J. Crew continues its retail expansion with a series of new specialty boutiques. Two men’s-only stores in downtown Manhattan are called the Liquor Store and the Men’s Shop. They are filled with a curated selection of J. Crew must-haves, limited-edition items, vintage finds and a suiting shop.
No. 1035 is the exclusive Madison Avenue women’s shop that’s dedicated to the collection’s label. There are also one-of-a-kind products and vintage pieces. In addition, a Crewcuts (J. Crew’s kids’ line) store was recently opened on Madison Avenue, and a dedicated jewelry and accessories shop was added to the Prince Street store. The first ever J. Crew Bridal Boutique opened its doors in May 2010 at 769 Madison Ave. in New York City.
Moving from Harlem to Park Avenue, B. Oyama’s new showroom is now open at 230 Park Ave., on the 10th floor. (Oyama’s phone number is 212-234-5126 or 866-234-2135.) The company is celebrating its 10th year anniversary. Oyama is known for his custom tailoring and alterations of men’s suits, shirts, ties and sports coats. For their private clients, they are wonderful consultants for your wardrobe and image.
In Miami, designer Gustavo Cadile received the International Fashion Achievement Award at Funkshion Fashion Week in Miami. Following the awards presentation, Cadile presented his Memeka by Gustavo Cadile spring 2014 fashion collection on the runway. His gowns and cocktail dresses were glamorous! He is known for his beautiful colors, which exploded on the runway in shades of bright coral and vibrant cobalt.
This occasion marked the triumphant return for the designer at Funshion Fashion Week. Previously, Cadile showed his collection in 2010. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be receiving this award from Fashion Group International,” said Cadile. “It feels like a true homecoming to be surrounded by the people I knew during my formative years in the industry and to be showing on the runway again at Funkshion Fashion Week.”
“Gustavo Cadile has been an inspiration to those in Miami and worldwide as a role model for young designers. His success has built dreams for students,” said Rachel Alpert, south Florida president of Fashion Group International.
Cadile’s ties to the fashion community in Miami are deeply rooted. After moving to the United States in 1994, the Argentinian-born designer enrolled at the Miami International University of Art & Design. “I had the privilege of teaching Gustavo and watching him grow,” stated Charlene Parsons, department chair of fashion design at the university. “He has an eye of a great designer. Gustavo Cadile also knows the glamour of dressing everyone from celebrities to the woman who wants to look and feel like a celebrity.”
