At the Alhambra Ballroom in Harlem, the Friendly 50 Clubs Inc. of jazz musicians held their 53rd annual Harvey Davis Memorial Scholarship Dinner Dance. The two scholarship recipients were Joseph Tammaro (tenor sax), currently an eighth-grader at Beach Street Middle School in West Islip, N.Y., and Jordan Young (clarinet), an 18-year-old freshman jazz student at the Jackie McLean Institute at the Hartt School, located in Hartford, Conn. Both received a $750 check for their continued quest for knowledge in the art of jazz music.

Friendly 50 Club President John A. Barr said, “I taught instrumental music for the New York City Board of Education from 1963-1994. Now that I’m a retired senior citizen, I enjoy passing this only American art form to our younger musicians in school and jazz bands.”
