It’s that time of year when you need to add an extra hour of cardio and some more weight training to your workout routine in order to offset all of the calories consumed. Moderation is the key, but then again, this is just once a year, so let’s just throw it into the wind.

The festivities begin next week with the sixth annual Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival (October 23-27), presented by Food & Wine magazine. Again, proceeds benefit the Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign. From Oct. 17-20, chefs from around the city and around the world will converge to showcase foods, wines and spirits and discuss the business of food. There are still tickets available to some awesome events. Go to www.nycwff.org for more information and to buy tickets.

What you see is what you eat at the seventh annual New York City Food Film Festival, with proceeds benefiting the Food Bank For New York City. Executive Director George Motz takes audiences on a sensory journey. In addition to the signature events, including the Food Porn Party and Farm to Film to Table, there will be new additions like the opening night event, Kings of BBQ. The featured film of the evening is a documentary about American pitmasters traveling to Kuwait to cook an authentic American barbecue for 5,000 troops. Here’s what’s on the menu: brisket, sides, pastrami, lemon meringue pie and more. Check out this and other events at www.thefoodfilmfestival.com.

There you have it. For the price of a night out, you can have a unique, New York City food experience and do good in your city. Eat up!
