As head of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) in New York, one of the leading national HIV/AIDS service organizations, executive director Marjorie Hill has been at the forefront of the fight against the disease that has hit the African-American and Latino communities especially hard in the past 30 years. Hill announced her resignation from the organization, effective at the end of September.

Hill has sat at the helm of GMHC for seven years and guided the organization through some turbulent times, including a costly and controversial relocation; the aftereffects of Hurricane Sandy; and an increase in the number of HIV/AIDS patients seeking services in the metro area.

In a recent statement to the GMHC Board of Directors, staff and press, Hill said, “Leading GMHC during the last several years has truly been an honor, but after more than seven years as GHMC’s CEO—longer than any other head of an HIV/AIDS service organization—it is time for me to pursue new opportunities.”

Hill’s tenure ended Sept. 29. A replacement has not yet been named.
