Ted Corbitt, who was known around the world as “The Marathon Man,” will be inducted into the New York Road Runners Hall of Fame this coming fall. Corbitt, who passed away at the age of 88 in 2007, was the first president of the New York Road Runners, the largest running/marathon organization in the world. Corbitt laid out the New York Road Runners marathon course, as he did at courses around the country and world.
Corbitt was the first African-American to run in a marathon event, breaking barriers in this country and around the world. Bill Rodgers, Frank Shorter and Joan Benoit Samuelson will join Corbitt as Hall of Fame inductees this coming fall.
