When 10-year-old Noelle found out that her mother had breast cancer, she became her mother’s biggest cheerleader. Both mother and daughter weathered the storm together, and happily, they are both in recovery. But each one vowed that they would use the life-changing experience as a moment to create something special and hopefully make a positive impact in the lives of others living with breast cancer.

Mother and breast cancer survivor Maimah Karmo was inspired to begin the Tigerlily Foundation, an organization that has become a nationally renowned cancer support and advocacy resource for women and families. As for Noelle, she wanted to do something fun yet educational for young girls. She dreamed of a huge, glamourous pajama party where girls could have fun and become empowered. An event was born: the Pajama Glam Party in D.C., which attracted more than 300 guests. Because of its success, the party has made its way to New York City!

Noelle and Maimah Karmo will host the Tigerlily Foundation’s second annual Pajama Glam Party on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, located at 333 Adams St. in downtown Brooklyn. The event will be sponsored by Shea Moisture and will bring mothers and daughters together to educate them about health and wellness while creating a memorable bonding experience, and raise funds for breast cancer awareness. Tigerlily Foundation is partnering with award-winning natural skin and hair care brand Shea Moisture to bring glam and empowerment into the lives of New York City women and girls.

Hosted by Ms. New York Amanda Mason and radio personality Sarah Fraser, the event is expected to attract more than 300 attendees. Shea Moisture brand ambassadors, celebrity stylist and author Diane Bailey, and yoga guru and wellness expert Brenda Blanco will provide demonstrations for young women on natural hair care and how to make yoga and wellness part of their lifestyles. Also, award-winning producer and writer Imani Dawson of TribeCalledCurl.com and Jenell Stewart of the popular hair and beauty site KinkyCurlyCoilyMe.com will also provide women with stylish hair tips.

The event will feature local celebrities and beauty pageant queens, as well as health and wellness vendors. Pajama attire is welcome. Guests may partake in hair and makeup stations, pillow fights, sweet treats, jewelry vendors, a nail bar, Zumba, dancing, healthy treats and swag bags. The event will also provide mothers and their girls the opportunity to create inspirational, scrapbook-worthy collages together. The event will be jam-packed with activities such as raffle prizes, beverages, food and pictures on the pink carpet.

Dress in your favorite red, pink or purple pajamas and come out for the time of your life—all for a great cause. Bling and sparkle are highly encouraged!

“Our mission focuses not only on providing young women in treatment for breast cancer with support services, but to also educate girls and young women to be their own best advocates. Integrating natural products, having a healthy lifestyle and employing prevention as part of their daily lives can make an impact with their breast health risk and improve overall health. Partnering with Shea Moisture, a brand committed to total body wellness and community service, aligns with our belief of using skin and hair care that are free of toxins and synthetic ingredients,” says Maimah Karmo, founder of Tigerlily Foundation. She is a seven-year breast cancer survivor.
