It may seem far off, but summer is only a few months away, and June is Caribbean-American Heritage Month in the United States. The honorary month has officially been in place since 2006, according to the official website for Caribbean-American Heritage Month.

If you happen to find yourself traveling in Texas during the month of June, be sure to stop by the city of Houston and check out some of the events they have planned for Caribbean-American Heritage Month.

  • City Hall Proclamation: Join business owners and local leaders in Houston on June 3 at City Hall for an official proclamation of June as Caribbean Heritage Month.
  • Carnival at PlazAmericas Mall: A family-friendly carnival is back on June 22 for its second year and will be held at the PlazAmericas Mall.
  • Houston Caribbean Festival 2014: Though falling just outside of the official boundaries of Caribbean-American Heritage Month, this July 2-6 festival contains plenty of activities including a Jā€™ouvert celebration on the 4th of July.
