New York City-based artist, musician and fashion designer Amatus is a rare breed among the talented young creative forces in Manhattan and Brooklyn, who work feverishly to get their names and work out to the masses. After finding the golden opportunity to hang around and listen in on studio sessions with hip-hop soul powerhouses such as the Roots, Common and others, Amatus was noticed by the influential Black bass player and singer/songwriter Me‘Shell Ndegeocello.

Her music is an interesting concoction of experimental soul decorated with intricate mixes of soulful instrumentation, electronic pop and her sultry and vivacious voice. Her five-track album, “Broken Compass,” is her first musical effort, and with the influence of top musicians smoldering within her, she has a chance to go far.

What makes this local Black female local musician truly unique is that she composes scores for films and is working on a piece for Al-Jazeera America, along with a sound-design/score for the debut of Dominique Morisseau’s play “Sunset Baby.”

Keep your eyes open for the work of Amatus. Her clothing line, 345prospet Inc., has been distributed by Barney’s Co-op, and you can purchase some of her T-shirt designs at http://345prospect.com.
