The four-day Giglio Festival is underway in East Harlem. The festival centers around an 80-foot-tall wooden tower made in commemoration of the Miracle of Saint Anthony. Come out to enjoy music and events for children on Pleasant Avenue between 114th and 116th Streets. And make sure to be there for the lifting of the tower on Sunday at 1:30pm. More history here.
Dance Theater of Harlem
Watch dance and performance from the Dance Theater of Harlem noon until 9pm on Saturday on West 152nd between Amsterdam and St. Nicholas Avenues.
Last Weekend: Art and Architecture at the Sugar Hill Apartments
Take the opportunity to look around the new building on 155th and St. Nicholas designed by rising star of the architecture world, David Adjaye. Public art organization No Longer Empty presents work from local and international artists on the third and ninth floors. The Schomburg Center presents a performance on the third floor from 3-5pm on Saturday.
DJ Stormin Norman’s Sundae Sermon afternoon dance party returns this weekend. Look out for a special performance from the cast of the Sylvester musical.
