On Monday, Feb. 17, creative group Breaking Walls will honor actress Billie Allen at a fundraiser held near Manhattan’s Meatpacking District.

Allen, who has starred in many Broadway plays like “A Raisin in the Sun” and currently sits on many theatre advisory boards, has been working with the youth group since 2010.

Breaking Walls allows youth to express themselves and address issues in their lives through creative writing and performance. Founder and director Fran Tarr started the group after being inspired by working with students in Bethlehem, Palestine. The former teacher then brought her writing and performing workshop back to Brooklyn. Tarr later filmed two documentaries following students writing and performing in both cities.

Monday’s fundraiser will raise money for Breaking Walls’ 2014 program partner, Cape Town, South Africa. The group will work with over 20 writer-performers from Brooklyn, Bethlehem, Berlin and Cape Town for 10 days.

The fundraiser and tribute to Allen will take place at The Atlantic Theater Company at 330 W. 16th St. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
