The organizers of the 45th NAACP Image Awards have launched a new app which allows viewers around the country to experience the award show on both Android and iPhone systems.
Founded in 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization. The award show is on Saturday, February 22 and celebrates the accomplishments of people of color in media and literature. It also honors individuals or groups working on social justice issues.
Leonard James, III Chairman of the NAACP Image Awards Committee said that the new app would allow users to, "get a behind-the-scenes digital pass to the show, and have a chance to interact with fellow viewers around the country throughout the show.”
“You can also vote for the best dressed on the red carpet, and for your favorites Image Awards nominees,” James went on to say.
Some of the planned presenters this year include Idris Elba, Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson among others. The press release also confirmed that Oprah Winfrey will honor the legacy of Nelson Mandela at the awards. Tyler Perry, Arsenio Hall and Lupito Nyong'o are also carded to present.
The 45th NAACP Image Awards will broadcast LIVE on TV One from the Pasadena Civic auditorium in California.
