Shirley Chisholm to be honored by the League of Women Voters

In honor of Women's History Month, the League of Women Voters will honor the legacy of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm with the introduction of the 2014 Shirley Chisholm Membership Level.
Chisholm, who passed away in 2005, was the first woman to run for the Democratic presidential nomination and the first African-American woman to be elected to Congress.
On Monday March 24 at 11 a.m. the league will announce the new level in her honor.
The event will be hosted by Congressman Hakeem Jefferies. Invited Speakers include Chirlane Mc Cray, the wife of Mayor Bill de Blasio, Public Advocate Letitia “Tish” James, Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo and Brooklyn College Professor and author, Barbara Winslow.
It will take place at the Shirley Chisholm State Office Building located at 55 Hanson Place, Brooklyn NY.
