The 29th annual MLK Family Celebration took place at Medgar Evers College. Both Borough President Eric Adams and Medgar Evers College President Rudy Crew spoke. Adams presented an award to the Ifetayo Youth Ensemble. Other attendees included Public Advocate Letitia James and former New York City Comptroller John Liu, as well as Assemblywoman Annette Robinson.

Twenty-one prize-winning students from elementary, middle and high schools presented portions of essays and poetry. The three winning artistic creations were on display as well.

A video tribute to the late Rep. Major Owens was presented. Owens’ eldest son, Chris Owens, was the event’s master of ceremonies, and his youngest son, Millard Owens, spoke as well.
