Air conditioning manufacturer Friedrich will donate 150 units to cool 38 Cornerstone programs at NYCHA sites. The gift benefits community centers where youth participate in summer enrichment programs. The donation goes to the Department of Youth and Community Development in NYCHA, which has extended evening hours in community centers citywide.
An announcement of the installation of the air conditioning units was made at an event Tuesday at the Butler Community Center in the Bronx. Several officials, including DYCD Commissioner Bill Chong, NYCHA Vice President for Community Operation Deidra Gilliard and Friedrich regional sales manager Chuck Goldberg attended the event.
DYCD supports New York City’s after‑school and youth workforce development programs throughout the five boroughs. The agency also oversees funding for antipoverty programs, such as adult literacy and immigrant services. Cornerstone programs provide engaging, high-quality, year-round programs for adults and young people. Programs are located at 70 NYCHA community centers throughout the five boroughs.
