Last Wednesday night, 27-year-old parolee, Daniel St. Hubert was arrested in Queens after fatally stabbing 6-year-old Prince Joshua Avitto and critically injuring 7-year-old Mikayla Capers in Brooklyn. Investigators also say that he may be responsible for the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Tanaya Copeland and a 53-year-old man on the Chelsea subway platform. He is now charged with murder and attempted murder.

After committing such acts, Marie Bauzile, the mother of St. Hubert, has taken her son’s defense.

Bauzile believes that the justice system has failed her son and the public. She believes that the states unwillingness to treat her son’s mental illnesses caused him to turn to worst acts of violence.

In 2009, St. Hubert was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia after attempting to strangle Bauzile with an electric cord.

According to the Daily News, Judith Perry, St. Hubert’s sister, said he was given no medication or therapy when incarcerated.

It took that long,” Bauzile told the Daily News. “If he’s sick, it’s not his fault. I forgive him for what he did to me because it’s not something he can control.”
