Justice coalition for Alberta Spruill

Activists will commemorate the 11th anniversary of the police shooting of grandmother Alberta Spruill. The candlelight vigil for “Change and Justice” will be held on Friday, May 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Spruill’s former residence at 310 W. 143rd St., Bronx. They will also mark the ninth anniversary of the late Rev. Clarence P. Grant and recognize the fourth anniversary of the Detroit Police shooting of 7-year-old Aiyana Jones.

The vigil has a wide range of supporters, including Cynthia Howell, niece of Spruill; the National Action Network Political Action Committee; One Hundred Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care; the December 12th Movement; Man Up!; Operation POWER; District Council 37; Local 1549; the Coalition of Black Trade Unions/Coalition of Labor Union Women; and the Harlem Tenants Council. It is endorsed by the Baptist Minister’s Conference of Greater New York and Vicinity.
