New York City’s top high school senior boys and girls basketball players from the Public Schools Athletic League and the Catholic High School Athletic Association are competing against each other for the right to call their league the “Best in the City” in the 2015 NYC Mayor’s Cup Basketball All-Star Games.

The games tipped off last night (Wednesday) at the Baruch Recreation Center Complex. The games are the only all-star basketball events played between the two leagues. Playing in the boys’ game, New York’s “Mr. Basketball,” Matt Ryan (Iona Prep/Notre Dame University), and Jermaine Bishop (Holy Cross/undecided) will lead the CHSAA All-Stars against the PSAL team featuring Jessie Govan (Wings Academy/Georgetown University) and Desure Buie (Wings Academy/Hofstra University). On the girls’ teams, Ashanae McLaughlin (Murry Bergtraum/Seton Hall University) and Alexandria Smith (Murry Bergtraum/Middle Tennessee State University) will lead the PSAL All-Stars as they compete against Aryn McClure (Archbishop Molloy/Quinnipiac University) and Dina Motrechuk (Moore Catholic/University of Rhode Island) and the CHSAA All-Stars. To support the NYC Mayor’s Cup, former New York Knicks player John Wallace and former New York Liberty player Kym Hampton attended the game and signed autographs. The NYC Mayor’s Cup Basketball All-Star Games are supported by Adidas.

The NYC Mayor’s Cup series showcases the city’s elite high school student-athletes as they compete for the right to call themselves the “Best in the City” in baseball, basketball, cricket, cross-country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, outdoor track and field and wrestling. The series is produced by NYC and Company, the city’s marketing, tourism and partnership organization.
