The annual Bronx Old-Timers Day was held Aug. 2 at Forest Playground, located at 166th Street and Union Avenue. The highlights of the day were the annual Old-Timers Softball Game and the Bid Whist Tournament. The event was also a free-food day, catered by Johnson’s BBQ, 790 E. 163rd St. in the Bronx, providing chicken, barbecue ribs and collard greens. Food was also donated by members of the community. Among the featured activities was the annual basketball games (Biddies to Old-Timers) and music by DJ Kenny Ken.

Another highlight of the day was the presentation of Community Service Awards to this year’s recipients, Willie Worsley, Willie Cager and Nevil Shed of “Glory Road” fame, the movie that told the story of their rise to the NCAA basketball championship in 1966, whipping Kentucky 72-65. All three were inducted into the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame in 1966.

It was a fun-filled day at Forest Playground, with something for everyone.
