Reports indicate the wife of Jerame Reid is filing a wrongful death suit seeking more than $1 million.

The two officers involved in Reid’s December 2014 killing, the city of Bridgeton, where the incident occurred, the Bridgeton police chief and the Cumberland County prosecutor are all named in the suit.

Black police officer Braheme Days fatally shot Reid. Days claimed he saw a gun in the glove compartment of the vehicle in which Reid was riding. The incident was captured on a police dashboard camera.

Reid’s wife, Lawanda, reportedly claims her husband’s Fourth Amendment and civil rights were violated when he was shot.

Conrad J. Benedetto, the family’s attorney, also claims a pattern of racial misconduct exists within the Bridgeton Police Department and is calling for an independent investigation into the department.

“There is evidence which may show conduct on the part of officers that is potentially criminal, and an independent review should be undertaken,” Benedetto said in a press release.

He has also sent letters to the New Jersey attorney general’s office and the U.S. attorney for New Jersey.
