Thank you to all who submitted dishes to represent the Amsterdam News and AmNewsFOOD at the first ever Harlem Eat Up (@HarlemEatUp) festival taking place in just one week! Harlem restaurants, cooks and food makers showed what they can do, with some delicious dishes and more.
We are so grateful for your response to our call, and we have two winners! Together they are a match made in food heaven. Congratulations to Angela Fuller of Simplicious vegetarian egg rolls (featured in Talking SCHOP!, 3/26/15) and to husband and wife team Chef Diarra and Zuhirah Khaldun-Diarra, of Chez Diarra (@TasteofAfrica2, www.chezdiarra.com).
Fuller has been making her signature egg rolls and other vegetarian dishes for many years, serving them up at Watkins Health Food Store on 125th Street, among other locations. Chez Diarra, or “house of the lion,” makes artisanal vegan African hot pepper sauces—foronto and peanut pima—using fresh ingredients, sold at local food markets.
Please come out Sunday, May 17 to Morningside Park between noon and 4 p.m. to taste the foods of our winners, subscribe to the Amsterdam News and see all the rest the festival has to offer. We look forward to seeing you.
