Last Saturday, July 30, the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel hosted the third annual Black Expo. The big event celebrates and showcases Black businesses and entrepreneurship ventures. Launched in April 2013, the New York Black Expo was started to assist African-American and Caribbean-American residents reach their “Buy Black” and “Support Black Business” goals. Vendors came out to display their different products, services and wares.

With Black spending power calculated to be approximately $1.1 trillion (“State of African-American Consumer” report), the Buy Black Empowerment Movement, co-organizers of the Black Expo, recognize that if Black America were a free-standing country, it would be the 15th richest nation in the world. Food for thought indeed.
