While on the set of a London performance during the British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park last month, superstar singer Stevie Wonder dropped some science as he exhorted the audience of more than 65,000 in attendance to remember that “Black lives matter … because we are the original people of this world!”
That very same weekend England’s capital experienced three days of chaos and unrest caused by Black Lives Matter protestors.
“All life does matter, but the reason that I say Black lives matter is because we are the original people of this world,” Wonder expressed to the audience.
“So in essence, everyone here has some Black in you. You’ve all got some soul in you, so stop denying your culture,” he added.
Known to speak out against various social injustices in the past, such as the oppression and terrorism the apartheid system imposed on the indigenous people by the imperialists in South Africa, the singer lamented “this horrible time we’re living in.” He added, “I encourage you to choose love over hate. It’s just that simple. Choose love over hate, right over wrong, kind over meanness. Hope over no hope at all.”
During the very same weekend, London experienced untold chaos and turmoil as Black Lives Matters protestors “shut down” Parliament Square on that Friday, Brixton on Saturday and Oxford Street and the U.S. embassy on Sunday.
People in the United Kingdom face racial issues similar to the ones people face in the United States. Various roads and streets were blocked and jammed for up to six hours as protestors climbed rooftops and demonstrated about racist police and police violence in “solidarity with our American brothers and sisters.”
