This week family members, community leaders and residents gathered for a street co-naming ceremony for Tanaya Copeland on the corner of Stanley Avenue and Sheridan Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn. The new street sign was unveiled Monday, May 2, 2016, in honor of Copeland. The 18-year-old nursing student was stabbed to death May 30, 2014, in East New York, only days before and a few blocks away from the stabbing death of 7-year-old Prince Joshua Avitto.
