Miss Vivica A. Fox is still bringing her very own brand of fire to everything that she touches. Currently she appears in “Empire,” playing the oldest sister of Cookie (Taraji P. Henson). No stranger to television, she began her career on daytime television soap operas, starting with “Days of Our Lives” (1988) and “Generations” (1989-91). But it was her roles in Roland Emmerich’s film “Independence Day” and F. Gary Gray’s “Set It Off” that really caught Hollywood’s attention. She won the icon lottery, playing the brutal assassin Vernita Green, codename Copperhead, in Quentin
Tarantino’s “Kill Bill.”
There are approximately 60 brand-new holiday-themed TV movies being offered this season, and as one of the co-producers on the new holiday family film “A Christmas Cruise” premiering on ION, Fox is laying yet another stone to anchor her growing empire.
In “A Christmas Cruise,” Fox portrays Pam, a divorced workaholic and an aspiring novelist longing for romance. Pressured by her family to find Mr. Right, she joins her best friend on a holiday-themed cruise. As the cast of familiar characters color Pam’s world, she unexpectedly finds the love of her life (Kristoff St. John) on board the hilarious cruise.
To ask the question what’s up next for Miss Fox is like asking what time does the sun rise and what time does the sun set. To sum it up, she’s always finding innovative ways to keep stacking her money.
Here is an edited excerpt from a conversation with Fox:
AmNews: Let’s talk hair. In 2008, you started the Vivica A. Fox Hair Collection, stepping into an industry that generates trillions of dollars. Why?
Fox: When I started the Vivica A. Fox Hair Collection, many of my peers laughed at me. They just did not understand the amount of money that the hair industry generates around the world, year after year. My business partner and I understood our market and the need for all types of women to have. It’s a very exciting time to be in this sector of business.
AmNews: What are your thoughts on the Bajan princess, Rihanna, and her Fenty makeup line? Rihanna is filling a hole in the $430 billion beauty market.
Fox: I have all love for Rihanna. All love. That’s what independent, strong and intelligent women should do.
AmNews: After “A Christmas Cruise” airs on the ION network on Dec. 16 and again on Christmas Day, what’s next?
Fox: “Every Day I’m Hustling.” “Every Day I’m Hustling” is the title of my new book, which will come out in 2018.
AmNews: Miss Fox, yet another hyphenate to your talents. Why now?
Fox: Another good question. I am a woman in my 50s, and I still have a lot more living to do. And this will deliver a universal message to go into the new chapters of life unafraid. Unafraid. That’s what I’ve done my whole career.
AmNews: I personally can relate to that message because, to keep it frank, every day I’m hustling, and trying to learn how to work smart instead of hard is on the top of my agenda.
Fox: “Every Day I’m Hustling” is an extension for many of the motivational speeches that I’ve given, over the years, to women and young girls. You can’t expect success to come and knock on your door. Smart choices, good choices, and this can make things happen.
AmNews: What other advice will we be able to find in your forthcoming book “Every Day I’m Hustling”?
Fox: I am loving your questions. Let me think. This is important. Never let your mistakes define you. Embrace constructive criticism. Develop patience. Learn what it takes to build a career. Learn the politics that shape your industry and learn how to successfully play the game, how to initiate and how to fall back.
